LONGING FOR THE HOLY

We are again offering Part I of Longing for the Holy, a spiritual journey for those who want to enrich their sense of the presence of God.  Longing for the Holy concerns the way we channel the deep longing at the core of our being and explores the themes of church community, justice, sexuality, the practices of the spiritual life, and being a mystic of the everyday.  It is based on Fr. Ron Rolheiser's book, "Holy Longing".

Part Two:  Six Wed Evenings Oct 27 - Dec 1

                    Cost:  $10 (same book at Part One)

MARY, MOTHER OF ALL CHRISTIANS AND HER SON’S MESSAGE FOR THE AMERICAS

The British Columbia / Yukon State Knights of Columbus and Redeemer Pacific College present Mary, Mother of All Christians and Her Son's Message for the Americans, by MSGR. SPANISH MASS

Sun Sep 12th at Our Lady of Lourdes at 3:30 pm. It will be followed by a social gathering at the parish centre, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence. All people of Hispanic Origin living in the Okanagan Valley are cordially invited to attend.”

HOLY CHILDHOOD ASSOCIATION

Thank you to the children of our parish who have raised $167.56 for the Holy Childhood Association through their generosity in contributing their Sunday collections in the Little Church in front of the Altar.

BAZAAR UPDATE

The conveners are in place for Sept. 25th.  We are less than a month away.  Sept. will be a very busy month.  I would like to call a meeting of ALL CONVENERS AND THOSE INTERESTED IN HELPING for Tue Sep 7th at 7:00 pm in the Church hall.  Please come with your requests, information and any help that you may need.  If there are any of you that are able to pick up donations for the bazaar you can call me and let me know.  There are people who have no way to get the goods to the hall.  You can contact Bev at 250‑869‑4183.

MILITIA IMMACULATA OKANAGAN

We will host a one day retreat with talks presented by Fr. Patrick Greenough, National Spiritual Director, on Sat Sep 18th.  Topics will focus on the Dignity & Mission of the Priesthood.  Beginning with mass at St. Pius X at 9:00 am, followed by 4 talks, concluding at 4:00 pm.  Registration fee: $20 prior to Sep 14th, $25 after, includes lunch & refreshments.  Registration forms at Loaves & Fishes Bookstore, or online at jerrydusik@shaw.ca , or leib@vip.net.  A renewal of consecration vows to the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be held during the mass.  Everyone welcome.

PAKISTAN FLOOD RELIEF

We have all heard the news from Pakistan and the extreme flooding they have experienced.  You can help by putting an envelope marked “Pakistan Relief” in the Sunday collection.  Make cheques payable to “ST PIUS X” and we will forward it to Development and Peace who will have your contribution matched by the Canadian Government and forwarded to Caritas Pakistan, the Catholic Relief Agency best equipped to serve the victims.  Since this agency has very low administrative costs, this ensures that more of the money goes to those most in need.

CATECHISM NEWS

Catechism for St Pius children who do not attend Catholic school starts on Tue Sep 14th at 6:00 pm in the church.  We will receive registrations that evening before classes however if you would like to register your child before Sep 14th you may pick up a registration form at the office.  We are looking forward to seeing you all again.

DIOCESAN D & P COMMITTEE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

KELOWNA RIGHT TO LIFE

Mayor Sharon Shepherd has proclaimed Sep 25th – Oct 2nd 2010 as "Protect Human Life Week" in Kelowna! The week will kick off with the annual Walk for Life Fundraiser on Saturday, September 25th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in Mission Creek Regional Park on Springfield Road. As an added incentive, Kelowna Right to Life will be giving away a FREE IPad (Value: $600) at this year's Walk for Life! Everyone who raises a minimum of $50 in pledges will have their name entered into the draw for a free IPad.
