Dear pastoral
collaborators: from Archbishop James Weisgerber, President of CCCB Year after year, the
Bishops of our country appeal to the faithful for financial assistance on behalf
of the Church in Canada. The
primary purpose of the Collection for the needs of the Church in Canada is to
provide financial support for the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB),
which is the national Episcopal assembly to which all the Bishops of the country
belong. Canadian Catholics are
sometimes not aware of how much the CCCB contributes to the well-being of the
Church and society, or they may not understand its role.
As a Bishop today, it would be impossible for me to exercise my pastoral
ministry without the CCCB, as it provides an essential contact with all my
brother Bishops in Canada as well as a unique opportunity to collaborate with
them nationally and internationally. Whether it is faith
education, social justice, ecumenism, interfaith relations, ethical issues or
events that require common action here or elsewhere in the world, the CCCB
offers an important means for the Bishops of Canada to exercise collegiality and
Episcopal solidarity.
