RENOVATION UPDATE:- After taking some time to research the question, both the Finance and the Parish Pastoral Councils have decided to extend our present renovations to include the insulating of the church roof to the maximum possible: R28. The initial project costing $65,000 includes the siding, fascia and gutters of the church and hall, the re-roofing of the church, hall, little house and garage, the insulation of the hall to code.  The church portion of our building has no insulation or room for insulation.  The cost of building up that portion of the roof and insulating it will cost an additional $40,000.  The reasons for doing so:

1)       Cost will be recovered over 25 years in lower heating costs. (Air conditioning costs will be negligible.  We only use the A/C at the times of the services.)

2)       Comfort: the air near the ceiling will be less cold.  This will create less of a draft when we are pushing the warm air from the ceiling vents down with the fans.

3)       Better stewardship of the environment.

Total cost that will be taken from our special renovation account is $105,000.

BISHOPS’ COLLECTION FOR THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH IN CANADA  The annual Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will be held in most parishes in Canada next weekend.  The monies raised will be sent to our diocese, which will use these revenues to help pay its annual contribution to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB).  Through the work of the Bishops of Canada who are its members, the Conference is involved in national and international areas of pastoral activity, including ecumenical and interfaith relations, social justice, aid to developing countries, collaboration with Aboriginal Peoples, the protection of human life, liturgy and catechesis.  It also provides the Bishops a forum to share their experiences and insights on the life of the Church and the major events that shape our society.

The offices of the CCCB are located at 2500 Don Reid Drive, in Ottawa, where a staff of approximately 40 works in different services, supporting the pastoral work of the Bishops nationally and internationally.

Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius X

Pope Pius X

Among his first actions as Pope, Pius X ordered the distribution of 4,000 pounds to the poor in Rome and half again that sum to the poor in Venice.  To those who complained at the sheer size of the donation, Pope Pius X replied, “Where is your trust in God’s providence?”
