Early in 1970 Bishop Doyle and the five Deanery Councils of the Nelson Diocese were brought into session. One of the purposes was to implement the New Documents of Vatican II which were now completed. For the North Okanagan Deanery elected were: Senator - Fr. Mulvihill with Adam Reiger, Wilf Hoffman and Jack Hubenig as representatives. There were at least four weekend sessions each year, and many long hours were spent with the Bishop helping to formulate policy for the Diocese. There were further Deanery meetings on the local level, with input from representatives of Parish Councils. The idea was that through the Bishop and the Pastoral Council information was to go out to the Deaneries and Parish Councils and to the people. The Pastoral Council was in turn to bring back to the Bishop communication as to the spiritual aspect and other needs of the people. The scope of the Pastoral Council covered so many subjects that we can not begin to write about them, so we'll only touch on those pertaining to the Liturgy Renewal that were later made available for the people of St. Pius X Parish. They include study series on: the Church, Revelation, Liturgy, Laymen in the Church, Apostolate of the Laity, Christian Education, Ecumenism, Priesthood, Communication and others. The first election for parish chairman was held in November, 1966. Two candidates stood for office and Mr. Andy Runzer was elected chairman with Mr. Larry Schlosser being the alternate. Somewhat later a parish council was elected. The four successful candidates were Mr. Larry Schlosser, Mr. Caesar Turri, Mrs. Hilda Wagner and Mrs. Margaret Haddad.
