Anointing of the Sick

If you are hospitalized, please be sure to identify yourself as a Catholic. Do not hesitate to notify the Pastor of shut-ins or hospitalized parishioners. For emergencies, call 762-2587 at any hour.

 

Once you pick up your envelopes and the label at the top has your name on it, you will not need to record your name on each envelope; the number identifies you and a tax receipt will be sent to you at the address you registered with.

 

 

NELSON DIOCESAN YOUTH RALLY:- Attention all high school students.  Come and gather in Penticton on the weekend of October 17th – 19th.  Rediscover your faith, be part of the youth community and have fun in the process. Registration forms are available at either church entrance.  Please return them to our parish office before October 1, 2008.

50th Anniversary:- Our parish is looking for volunteers to work on St. Pius Xth 50th anniversary celebration.  Please contact the office if you can help.

Pictorial directory:- Our parish is planning a pictorial directory to celebrate our 50th anniversary.  There will be a photographer coming to our parish on Jan 13th – 17th.  For those who are going south, and wishing to be a part of the directory, please drop off a recent wallet size picture at the office with your names on the back.

CATECHISM:- There will be no catechism classes on Tuesday Oct 14 due to elections.

PRIEST STUDY DAYS:- Due to the annual priest study days at Seton House, there will be no weekday masses at St. Pius X on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Please pray for all the priests of the Diocese.

Pilgrimage of faith:- Soon you will be receiving a package in the mail regarding our Pilgrimage of Faith. If you do not receive it, please let us know.  Our campaign will start on the first weekend of October.  Please be generous.

TOUCHING JESUS THROUGH THE CHURCH:- is an eight week series exploring the Catholic Church.  Come and join us at St. Pius X Church on Monday, October 6 at 6:30 PM as we begin this series of video talks given by noted professor of theology Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio.  The talks are practical, entertaining, and enlightening and are faithful to the orthodox teachings of the Catholic Church.  We will begin with desert and coffee followed by the video then a short discussion period.  Touching Jesus Through the Church covers such topics as Who needs the Catholic Church; Getting More out of the Mass; and Personal Prayer.  It is meant to answer key questions for new as well as life-long Catholics.  Phone Janet (860-8807), Meg (762-8274) or St. Pius X Parish Office (762‑2587) for more information or to register.

Attention boys & girls of St. Pius X Parish:- We would like to start a children’s choir.  If you are interested please sign your name on the sheets provided at the entrances to the church.

FOOD BANK:- We will be collecting food donations for the Kelowna Food Bank at all masses on Thanksgiving weekend October 12th.  Please bring your donations of groceries to mass that weekend.

THANK YOU:- The St. Pius X Quilters would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all  parishioners who helped to sell tickets on this year’s raffle quilt.  The raffle was very successful largely due to your support and co-operation.  Once again, many thanks from the St. Pius X Quilters.

Pastoral visitors:- A number of our parishioners visit the sick and shut-in members of our parish in the hospital, in nursing homes and in their own homes on a regular basis.  We meet on the first Wednesday of the month for growth opportunities and support.  If you would like to join us, phone Sr. Mary Ann at (250) 762‑6841 or the office at (250) 762‑2587.

PREGNANCY CARE CENTRE:- Please remember to return your baby bottles to the church by October 13th (Thanksgiving Day).

The Catholic Independent Schools of Diocese of Nelson (CISND):- invites applications for an elementary school secretary at St. Mary’s School in Cranbrook.  The position entails working 30 hours per week starting October 21, 2008.  Application deadline: October 10.

SPAGETTI DINNER:-  World youth Day Pilgrims & the Chaperone, Christine Pineault, will speak on their WYD experience in Australia with a PowerPoint presentation.

St. Pius X on Saturday, Oct 18th at 7pm. 

Tickets are $12 and are available from Loaves & Fishes until Wednesday, Oct 15th (250) 868‑8933.

No tickets will be sold at the door.  Proceeds to help support Corpus Christi Celebration.


MASS AT SANDLEWOOD:- There will not be a mass at Sandalwood this week.  There will be a Liturgy of the Word by Sr. Mary Ann.

Gospel Mission:- Our parish is hoping to help out with supplying a meal or two at the Gospel Mission.  Those who are interested in this type of involvement, please contact the office.

TEMPORARY CARETAKER:- Nuno and Maria will be taking a well deserved holiday.  We are looking for someone who is willing to take on the responsibilities during their absence: Oct 27th ‑ Nov 18th.  If you are interested please contact Fr. Bart.

Holy Childhood Children’s Collection:- We would like to congratulate the children of our parish for raising $152.68 since they began sharing their coins with the poor children throughout the world during our liturgies (via the little church in front of the alter).  Thank You.

People of Faith Charismatic prayer meeting Tuesdays in Charity Hall at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome to join us in prayer of praise, thanksgiving, and intercession. For more information call Madeleine at (250) 452‑6898

Federal Election:- Our Bishops have come out with a short four page letter entitled “Making your voice heard”.  It speaks on our call to be involved with the issues and with the direction our country takes.  It offers some good “Food for Thought” while retaining a non-partisan stand.  Consult the Canadian Bishops website at www.cccb.ca/news.

Rachel's Vineyard sponsors a Holy Hour at St. Charles Garnier Church the third Tuesday of the month from 9 to 10 a.m. after the 8:30 a.m. Mass.  Please join us in prayer for an end to abortion and for the healing of all those who have been touched by abortion.

An all-candidates forum:- The evening of Monday, October 6th, 2008, is scheduled as an all-candidates forum. It will take place at Christ Lutheran Church on Gordon Dr (just south of Springfield), beginning at 7pm. Central Okanagan Ministerial and Kelowna KAIROS will be sponsoring and hosting this event, and questions about social justice will be asked, as well as moderated questions from the public gathered there.

ST. EDWARD’S BAZAAR:- Saturday Oct 25th from 9:30am to 2pm at the Parish Hall, 11123 Okanagan Centre Road E. Winfield.  Featuring Treasures, Tea Room, Baking, Crafts, Silent Auction, Door Prizes and so much more.

Pro-Life:-

Mayor Sharon Shepherd has declared the week of September 28 - October 4 as "Protect Human Life Week" and the Kelowna Right to Life Society has a number of events planned for the occasion.

 

Sunday October 5 will see the annual Life Chain take place in Kelowna at the corner of Gordon Drive and Harvey Avenue. Participants are asked to gather in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen at 1:45 pm.

 


Rosary for peace & for families:- The rosary is prayed for peace and for families every Friday at 3:00pm in ICC church.  Please join us.

Life in the Spirit Retreat:- You are invited to participate in a weekend Retreat at St. John Vianney Church, beginning the evening of Friday Oct. 17th and all day Saturday, Oct. 18th.  The purpose of the Retreat is to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into a deeper experience of prayer and into a more intimate relationship with God. MASS SCHEDULE CHANGE ICC:- Next Sunday only, October 12th, the 5:30 PM Mass at Immaculate Conception Church will be cancelled and replaced with a 1 PM Mass.  Many Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving with the main dinner on Sunday, leaving Monday for travel.  We anticipate that there would be a low attendance during the dinner hour, necessitating the change.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  The regular 5:30 PM Mass will resume as scheduled on 19 October.
