Pope
Pius X Pope Pius X had a tremendous effect on the many
faithful who dared not approach the Eucharist on a frequent basis because of
their unworthiness. The errors of
Jansenism had had a great effect on the Church for 200 years and there were
still many who cowered at the thought of approaching God too readily.
“The primary purpose of the Holy Eucharist,” wrote Pius X in his
1906 decree, concerning frequent and daily communion, “is not that the
honour and reverence due to our Lord may be safeguarded, not that the
sacrament may serve as a reward of virtue, but that the faithful, being united
to God by holy communion, may thence derive strength to resist sinful desires,
to cleanse themselves from daily faults, and to avoid these serious sins to
which human frailty is liable.” Have
a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving Weekend
