VOLUNTEER NEEDED Anyone interested in helping prepare the meal for
Catholicism 201 on Monday evenings, contact Dennis & Janet at (250) 860‑8807
or Margaret at (250) 762-8274 or St. Pius X office (250) 762‑2587.
We plan to offer a simple meal along the format of Alpha – many hands make
light work. WHY DO WE BAPTIZE INFANTS? This question is one of the issues that will be
answered at our next session of Catholicism 201, a video course dealing with
what makes us particularly Catholic. We have completed sessions dealing with
the history of the Church as established by Christ with Peter as the
“rock” of its foundation and the unbroken line of his successors and a
session dealing with an overview of the Sacraments. Our
next session will deal with the specific Sacraments with special attention on
why we baptize infants. We meet Monday evenings beginning at 6:00pm with
a shared meal, desert and coffee at 6:30 and the video at 7:00. Please
register for the meal by Saturday. If you miss the Saturday meal
registration or would simply like to join us for dessert, coffee, the video
and discussion, come join us at St. Pius X church at 6:30. Contact
Dennis & Janet at (250) 860‑8807 or Margaret at (250) 762‑8274
or St. Pius X office (250) 762‑2587 for further information or to
register. CHOIR FOR MIDNIGHT MASS Please join us as we practice Christmas music for the
Midnight Mass. We will practice every Thursday at 7:15pm in the church.
Everyone interested is eagerly invited!!! LITURGY COMMITTEE MEETING Mon Nov 16th at 10:45am in the Fr. Martin
Room. Everyone is welcome to attend as we discuss the upcoming Advent
season as well as continue our discussion of Deis Domini. INTERNATIONAL SMORGASBORD Friday November 20th, at St Pius X Parish
at 6:00pm. Tickets are $15 and
are available from Jo Lauer (250) 762‑7767, Rosemary Lalonde (778) 478‑2156
or the rectory (250) 762‑2587. Each
parish has a limited supply so get yours early. An evening of ethnic food is being prepared by our seven CWL
councils, individuals and several ethnic restaurants. Entertainment
will consist of folk dancing and folk songs. This
dinner is a fund-raiser for Canadian Food for Children.
Two thirds donations are food but we in Kelowna concentrate on
children's clothing, toys, school and medical supplies. Through the generosity
of Diamond Delivery and local thrift shops, hotels and individuals, we
are able to ship an average of 150 large boxes and 15 buckets of soap and
shampoo every month. Volunteers do a wonderful job but we need to pay to ship
the goods to the poor in the Third World. ADVENT BOX We will have the “Family Advent Box” again this
year. It contains articles that
help families prepare for Christmas. There
is a schedule at the main entrance of the church for families to sign up to
have the box in their home. Advent
lasts for only 4 weeks so the time for each family will be short.
The family that has the box will need to get in touch with the next
family so that it can be exchanged. It
is very important to leave your phone number on the sign up sheet. It
will be the responsibility of the family that has the box to refill the goody
box before it gets passed on. We
had some very interesting comments last year in the comment book included in
the box and look forward to this year’s comments.
The box will be given to the first family on the schedule on Nov 29th
(the first Sunday of Advent) at the 11:00am Mass. THANK YOU Helen Colbert and Alpha Stefiuk for making the
beautiful remembrance banners. CHBC GOOD NEWS BEAR CAMPAIGN Once more the Society of St Vincent de Paul is a
participant in the CHBC Good News Bear campaign. Please lookout for Vincent,
The Bear Who Cares on CHBC-TV News at 5.30pm and 11:00pm. Please mark your

you for your support. DIOCESAN FAMILY CONFERENCE Please give some serious thought to attending the
Diocesan Family Life Conference titled “Christian Marriage for Dummies”.
Though the title may not appeal to everyone, this conference is not to
be missed. Louis Marsura comes
from Toronto and comers highly recommended by Bishop John.
He will be speaking on the beauty of Christian Marriage from the
perspective of Catholic Teaching. $100

we have been asked to undertake in regards to H1N1: ·
Removed
Holy Water Fonts from the entrances to the Church ·
We
discourage handshaking at the sign of peace and during welcoming ·
Temporarily
refrain from sharing the common cup ·
Use
of hand sanitizer before distributing communion ·
Encourage
those who are sick to stay home out of respect for others **
These
precautions will cease once the flu season is deemed over. THE SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL Your help is desperately needed. Due to the economic
times we are experiencing twice as many clients that need help. That means
that we need a lot of hampers and with the cost of food increasing we are
desperately short of funds. SUNDAY EVENING MASS Sunday Evening Mass will be held in Room 140 of the
Fipke Building at UBCO at 8:00pm. HOLY HOUR FOR PRIESTS Parishes
from W. Kelowna to Winfield will be hosting a series of Holy Hours for
Priests. Let us show our support
for our priests by attending as many as possible, turning our prayers into a
holy pilgrimage. The first Holy Hour will be Fri, Dec 4, at St. Edward
Church in Winfield, 7-8 p.m. More info to come on other parishes. HEALING MASS There
will be a mass with prayers for healing Tue Nov 24th at 7:00pm at
Immaculate Conception church. Praise
and worship twenty minutes before. Fr. Don Wilson is the celebrant.
Refreshments in the hall afterwards. RACHEL'S VINEYARD For
healing after abortion, Rachael’s Vineyard provides prayer shawls to each
candidate who attends a Rachel's Vineyard retreat weekend.
Several ladies from our parishes make the shawls.
We are looking for someone to coordinate this ministry.
This person needs to be able to drive and have knowledge of knitting
and crocheting. We are looking
for someone to take over an already existing ministry that includes tasks such
as purchasing yarn, delivering yarn and picking up shawls as they are
completed by our crocheters and knitters, and wrapping and carding the shawls
in preparation for the retreat. Please
call Janet at (250) 762‑2273 if you are interested in this
ministry. SILENT SIEGE Bound4LIFE
Kelowna Chapter is hosting a "Silent Siege" on
Sat, Nov 21st from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Pandosy St.
across from KGH. The Siege is not a protest, but a silent prayer meeting
asking God to intervene and bring an end to abortion in our nation. Red tape
with the word life is placed over our mouths indicating solidarity with the
voiceless child in the womb. For information contact Dusty at kelowna@bound4life.ca or visit us on
facebook: Bound4life Kelowna. "THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS IN SONG" CONCERT To
celebrate the beginning of Advent, "Friends in Faith" is hosting the
Unity Choir (of Carnegie Hall fame) and the Kelowna Liedertafel Choir, who
will perform on Sun, Nov 29th at 2:00pm in St. Charles Garnier
Church, 3645 Benvoulin Rd. In lieu of a free will offering please bring
a plate of Christmas baking, which will be served at the reception following
the performance. Any remaining baking will be donated to the Gospel
Mission. All are welcome. JESUS WHO The
Catholic National Evangelization Team of Canada, NET Team, will be visiting
Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Nov 16th. We would like to invite all
youth or young adults Grades 8-12 to join us that night for a spiritual
event of prayer, praise and worship. The topic is “Jesus Who?” It address
the question of who is Jesus in today’s society and what does He have to
offer us in our everyday life. Discover
how putting Jesus first actually gives us freedom, hope and love.
To help cover the cost of the NET Team and the refreshments there is a
small fee of $10 per person payable at the door. Registration begins at 5:30pm
and the event ends at 9:00pm. PERPETUAL ADORATION Our communal worship at Mass must be together with
our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration in order that our love
may be complete. (Pope John Paul II) Jesus
is waiting for you. For an hour
with Jesus, phone (250) 860‑6444. SPANISH MASS St Theresa’s on Sun, Nov 22nd at 3pm.
Social to follow. Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius X
Pope
Pius X In 1907 Pope Pius X issued a decree that
condemned sixty-five distinctive Modernist doctrines. Two months later an encyclical came out denouncing Modernism
as a group of errors that struck at the very roots of the Christian faith.
Among the errors: the separation between the “historical” and
“religious” Christ, the denial that God became flesh, the reduction of
faith to a matter of feeling, the reduction of religious authority that denies
its apostolic roots, and the minimizing of the Bible and Revelation in favour
of a personal inward enlightenment. In
one fell swoop Pope Pius X re-established the teaching authority of the Church
on the teachings of the Gospel and the divinity of Christ.
