AND PEACE - FALL ACTION:-
Food sovereignty is the right of people to healthy and culturally appropriate
food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods that respect
local biodiversity, and their right to define their own food and agriculture
systems. It puts the aspirations and needs of those who produce, distribute
and consume food at the heart of food policies rather than priorities of
markets and corporations. (Declaration of the World Forum for Food Sovereignty, Nyeleni,
Mali 2007.) If realized, food
sovereignty would provide for genuine food security and equitable trade, with
the priority given to local markets, producers and consumers. Contact Jeanette
or Les Atwell at (250) 861‑4242 or ljatwell@shaw.ca

VINEYARD
for healing after abortion provides prayer shawls to each candidate who
attends a Rachel's Vineyard retreat weekend.
Several ladies from our parishes make the shawls. We are looking for someone to coordinate this ministry.
This person needs to be able to drive and have knowledge of knitting
and crocheting. We are looking
for someone to take over an already existing ministry that includes tasks such
as purchasing yarn, delivering yarn and picking up shawls as they are
completed by our crocheters and knitters, and wrapping and carding the shawls
in preparation for the retreat. Please call Janet at (250) 762‑2273 if you are
interested in this ministry. Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius X
Pope
Pius X In a time when First Communion was often
celebrated at the age of fourteen, Pope Pius X urged the Church to allow
children as young as seven to receive Holy Communion.
He used every argument at his disposal.
These arguments included the wise words of St Thomas Aquinas who spoke
on the age of reason at which time a child may be given a share in the
Sacrament, the early Church’s practice to give Holy Communion to infants
after baptism and the words of our Saviour who said: “Let the children come
to me.” In making his point, he
stressed that both the young and the old had need of the graces present in a
life united to Christ given to us in the Eucharist.
That many vices and sins could be minimized if only young and old would
learn to draw strength from the Lord’s gift to the Church as their source of
strength and consolation.
