Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius Xth

Bishop Giuseppe Sarto

The Diocese of Mantua had numerous problems.  There were great divisions; the people as well as the clergy loved to fight amongst themselves.  There were not enough priests to fill the rural parishes and there wasn’t enough money to run the seminary that had been half empty for many years.  Giuseppe Sarto spared no ounce of energy to address the issues.  In regards to the seminary, he filled it with “boarders”.  In regards to the scarcity of priests, he called a synod.  In regards to the divisions, he organized a pastoral tour of the Diocese.  Within a year, he was well on his way in turning things around.
