MARRIAGE PREPARATION Preparation of engaged couples for marriage in Kelowna was early in 1977. Fr. Charles Mulvihill, then at St. Pius X Parish, and Sr. Gertrude McGovern, S.C., were the leaders in setting up courses for these couples and involving married couples in the presentations. Programs were offered to engaged couples in length from four to eight weeks duration, usually on a weekly basis. An eight-session weekly course is the standard preparation for those couples who are unable to attend an Engaged Encounter weekend. The programs are arranged according to the needs of the engaged couples and are held four to six times a year. Since the commencement of Engaged Encounter weekends in 1978, more and more couples are attending the weekends with the result that the need for the weekly courses has been diminished.
