THE BIBLE, THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD

Noah

The next important person was Noah. He was a really good guy, but one of his kids was a Ham. Noah built a big boat in his back yard and put his family and a lot of animals in it. He asked his neighbours to join them, but they said they would have to take a rain check.

Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph

Next were Abraham, his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob. Esau was Jacob's brother, but Jacob was more famous because Esau sold him his birthmark for some pot roast. Jacob had a son, Joseph. Joseph wore a really loud sports coat.

Moses

Moses was the next important man. His real name was Charlton Heston. Moses led the Israel lights out of Egypt because of the bad Pharaoh. God sent ten plagues on the Egyptians. Some of the plagues were mice, frogs, bugs, lice and no cable.

Every day in the desert, God fed the Israel lights some manicotti. He gave them His "Top Ten" commandments. They were things like: don't lie, don't cheat, don't dance, don't smoke, don't covet your neighbour’s stuff (whatever that means). He also told them to humour their fathers and mothers.

NO SUNDAY HOLY HOURS DURING SUMMER

Due to warmer temperatures and Summer holidays, the Sunday Holy Hour will be cancelled for the Summer effective immediately.  It will restart in the Fall.

MYAN-AFRICAN CHARITY HOUSE

We are having a dessert party at 2449 Longhill (Rosemary Lalonde’s backyard) on June 20th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Tickets are $10 each. For the educational needs of Burmese refugee children.  Hanging plant raffle. Come and bring a friend. For tickets call Lorie Downey 250‑860‑7068.

GRIEF TO GRACE PROGRAM

Do you have a few hours to spare each month and a willingness to share your God given gifts and talents?  Then join our team and help restore lives!  A new program launched in our diocese and the first of its kind in Canada, is looking for a dynamic volunteer experienced in marketing and promotions.  Grief to Grace is a treatment program designed to heal and restore the wounds of abuse.  If you have some time and a heart to help others find wholeness call Terry Dunn at 250-878-7603.

RENOVATION NEWS

We have awarded the contract for renovations to the Main Entrance and confessionals to John Leinemann.  An application for a building permit will be made in the coming week and construction will start by mid-June.

A number of things have gone in our favour thus far.  There seems to to be enough power to accommodate a space heater in the new confessionals and a couple of baseboard heaters in the expanded entranceway.  Test holes have also been drilled into the concrete to ensure we do not have to pour new footings to support the added weight of the choir loft.

The contract price comes in under $35,000.  This does not include soundproofing doors for the new entranceway, the new sides and the two confessionals.  Nor does it include new light fixtures, heaters and other incidentals.  We are expecting an overall bill for $50,000 when everything is done.  This money will be taken out of our Special Building fund that was collected for renovations.

Weekday Masses will be held in the Parish Hall during the height of construction.

BAZAAR NEWS

We have set dates for people to drop off gently used articles for the different sections of the bazaar.  These are the dates;

·         June: Tue 22nd and Tue 29th from 10:00 am - Noon.

·         July: Tue. 20th and Tue 27th from 10:00 am - Noon.

·         Aug: Tue 24th and Tue 31st from 10:00 am - Noon.

In September there will be more time available as there will be more people around in the hall.

To accommodate those who are working please call Bev at 250‑869‑4183 and we can make some arrangement that will work for you.

The next Bazaar meeting will be Thu June 24th at 7:00 pm
