POTLUCK SUPPER – SATURDAY
JULY 19TH: Bishop
John will be coming to our parish on Saturday, July 19th, for the
5:00 p.m. mass. He will be
installing two of our Seminarians: Cerlouie
Jimenez and Gerald Sekanga as lectors. We
would like to have a potluck supper afterwards in the hall.
Everyone is welcome. ST. PIUS X PARISH SUPPORT OF
LOCAL CHARITIES: Over
the past few months our Parish Pastoral Council has discussed the issue
regarding local charities and the occasional requests made to the parish.
Over this period we have designated a sub-committee to look at a
variety of charities with the mandate to make recommendations regarding
financial contributions or other support.
The Parish Pastoral Council had earlier voted that $10,000.00 of our
annual budget be set aside for this purpose. There are many worthy charities in Kelowna.
Instead of setting up yet another one, we want to support those who are
most in line with our Catholic Theology and Philosophy. To date we have set
aside:
$1,000 for
Ozanam House
$1,000 for
Okanagan Pregnancy Care Centre
$2,000 for
Kelowna Community Food Bank
$1,000 for
Habitat for Humanity We also encourage
people to find out what is happening in these and other charities.
And we plan to be involved in the Kelowna Community’s Food Bank drive
in July by collecting non-perishables before and after mass, we plan to
advertise some of the volunteer building needs for Habitat for Humanity, and
may sponsor the occasional Dinner at the Gospel Mission beginning after the
Bazaar. We hope parishioners
will support our initiative and breathes some new life in that which has
already been established and continues to bear fruit in our community. Please let us know what you think or if there are other ways we can be involved. Many hands make light work. COLLECTION ENVELOPES:
Please mark down the amount you have enclosed in your envelope to help
the counters. Your name is not required, but if the amount is filled in it
is very helpful. Thank you. SATURDAY MORNING MASS: Beginning on July 5th,
the Saturday morning mass will be moved from Immaculate Conception Church to
St. Pius X Parish. Confessions will also be celebrated after the 9:00
a.m. Saturday Morning Mass. PAINTERS NEEDED: If
anyone is interested to volunteer to paint the sanctuary walls as part of a
work party, please inform the office. We
will coordinate it. RETROUVAILLE: A program of hope, designed to help couples in hurting

HAVE FLOWERS TO DONATE? Anyone
wishing to donate fresh flowers for Sunday Masses may drop them off (before
Saturday noon) in the bucket of water placed by the bench in the passageway to
the hall by the Fuller Street entrance. On

boaters, etc., and all who would like to get an early start on Sunday activities
by beginning the day with Mass. The
schedule for the other four Masses will continue as usual. PRAYER VIGIL FOR
THE UNBORN: Every Tuesday from
very early morning until 5:00 p.m. a group of concerned Christians keeps a
constant presence in front of Kelowna General Hospital where abortions continue
to be committed. These witnesses pray for the victims of abortion and for those
who end innocent human life. Their presence at the abortion site draws attention
to the evil going on in our own community and gives witness to the
Christian obligation to respect and promote the right to life. There is
always need for more volunteers to prove their commitment to God's laws by
participating regularly in this ongoing Christian action.
*SPECIAL NOTE*: This coming week, because of the Canada Day
holiday falling on Tuesday, the weekly prayer vigil will be observed on
Wednesday, July 2. It is hoped that those whose usual Tuesday activities
prevent their participation in the prayer vigil will make a special effort to
show their concern for innocent unborn life by attending on Wednesday. For
more information call 250-862-8202 or 250-763-1522.
