RECYCLE OLD SCHOOL SUPPLIES:- School is soon over so this is the time we ask all school children to save their partially used supplies like crayons, scribblers, pencils, picture books, anything that a poor child in a third world country would love to have .  Ask your school to gather them up and call Rosemary at (778) 478‑2156 and her group will be so happy to pick them up.

MEG & DOUG’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY:- The Parish would like to congratulate Meg and Doug for their witness to Christian Marriage and their dedicated work in the parish.  Thank you.

CATECHISM NEWS:- Registration forms are being sent out for next term.  We will begin Catechism on Sept 15th.  Please fill out your registration forms and either put them in the collection in an envelope marked “Catechism Registration” or bring them to the office.  If you need a registration form for your child for next term, you can pick one up at the office.

PARISH PHOTOGRAPHER:- St. Pius is on the lookout for a volunteer who would like to serve as our official parish photographer.  This person will be responsible for taking pictures at important times of the year and making them available to the parish.  Such a person does not have to be at all the events but can delegate someone to be there instead.  We are also looking for any volunteer photographers to be on-call for particular events.  Please contact the office at (250) 762‑2587.

ROOF & SIDING REPLACEMENT:- The building committee has recommended the replacement of the siding covering parts of the hall and church and also the shingles covering the church, hall and catechetical house.  The finance committee has recommended that the money be taken from the money collected a few years ago for renovations.  The Parish Pastoral Council has approved the project and the finances.
Estimated cost is $50,000 to $75,000.

BAZAAR CONVENERS NEEDED:- Apple Pie Making, Treasures, Grand Raffles, Set up & Takedown, Children’s Toys & Games and the Cake Walk.  It is the Parish’s biggest fund raiser and lots of fun but we need your help.  Any booths that do not have a convener will have to be dropped from the bazaar.  Our second bazaar meeting will be on Monday June 29th at 7:00pm in the Fr Martin Room.  Thank you Sharon Schwab (250) 861-2945.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY:- We are constantly reminded of Jesus’ call to help those in our community who are suffering and in need. We ask for your help in answering this call by giving to our collection taken up next Sunday.

Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius Xth

Pius X Cardinal

Cardinal Giuseppe Sarto

Although Cardinal Sarto had been appointed as Archbishop of Venice, he wasn’t able to begin his ministry in Venice until the Italian government approved the appointment.  The Italian government had taken it upon itself to approve or disapprove of who was nominated as patriarch of Venice.  The local government in Venice was equally stubborn.  It took sixteen months before the approval was given.  When it did come, the city opened its arms wide for her newest patriarch.  Cardinal Sarto entered the city aboard the king’s yacht.  He was overheard saying: “If I did not know that these honours were meant for Jesus Christ and not for my own poor person, I would feel deeply ashamed.”

To the Priests, Religious and Faithful of the Diocese of Nelson

Dear sisters and brothers,

“Christ’s faithful who make an offering so that Mass can be celebrated for their intention, contribute to the good of the Church, and by that offering they share in the Church’s concern for the support of its ministers and its activities.”

            (Code of Canon Law, §946)

It has been a custom in the Church for many centuries for individuals to make offerings on the occasion of the celebration of the Divine Eucharist as an expression of their prayer for their own needs, the needs of their families, neighbours, the community and, especially, their deceased loved ones.  The Code of Canon Law  requires that the Bishop of the Diocese exercise surveillance over this custom.   In keeping with the practice common in most Canadian Dioceses, the suggested Mass offering in the Diocese of Nelson is ten dollars.  This change will take effect immediately.  Since this is an offering and not a payment, it does not effect in any way the Masses already requested and/or scheduled in our parishes.

Fraternally in Christ,

John Corriveau, OFMCap.

Bishop of Nelson
