SINCEREST THANKS:- Thanks to Fr. Bart and the St. Pius Xth community for the beautiful Funeral Mass, burial and reception for our mother Barbara.  The Hauck Family.

RECYCLE OLD SCHOOL SUPPLIES:- School is soon over so this is the time we ask all school children to save their partially used supplies like crayons, scribblers, pencils, picture books, anything that a poor child in a third world country would love to have .  Ask your school to gather them up and call Rosemary at (778) 478‑2156 and her group will be so happy to pick them up.

BAZAAR CONVENERS NEEDED:- Apple Pie Making, Treasures, Grand Raffles, Set up & Takedown, Children’s Toys & Games and the Cake Walk.  It is the Parish’s biggest fund raiser and lots of fun but we need your help.  Any booths that do not have a convener will have to be dropped from the bazaar.  Mark Sat Sept 26 on your calendars.  Our second bazaar meeting will be on Monday June 29th at 7:00pm in the Fr Martin Room.  Thank you Sharon Schwab (250) 861-2945.

UPDATE FROM FR. BART’S MOM:- Last week I visited mom.  She has recovered from the side effects of her treatments and is feeling positive and optimistic.  Her doctors will have a chance to exam the results of the treatments in the latter part of July.  Until then, we wait.  Mom continues to ask for your prayers.  She is very grateful for all those who have prayed for her. “It has made a real difference.”

PARISH PHOTOGRAPHER:- St. Pius is on the lookout for a volunteer who would like to serve as our official parish photographer.  This person will be responsible for taking pictures at important times of the year and making them available to the parish.  Such a person does not have to be at all the events but can delegate someone to be there instead.  We are also looking for any volunteer photographers to be on-call for particular events.  Please contact the office at (250) 762‑2587.

PICTORIAL DIRECTORIES:- If you were part of the project, please pick up your copy at the parish office during office hours.  If you would like a copy but did not participate, please contact the office.

CATECHISM NEWS:- Registration forms are being sent out for next term.  We will begin Catechism on Sept 15th.  Please fill out your registration forms and either put them in the collection in an envelope marked “Catechism Registration” or bring them to the office.  If you need a registration form for your child for next term, you can pick one up at the office.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION:- Serra Club Kelowna would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to all those who helped to make the June 14th procession such a beautiful expression of our Catholic faith.  Also many thanks to all donors, participants and on-the-spot volunteers.  May God bless you all for your faithfulness.

VOCATION LIVE-IN:- The weekend of July 3-5 for boys or young men interested in the priesthood or the consecrated life, at the Seminary of Christ the King. Mission, BC. For more info call (604) 826-8715.

THANK YOU to the family of Barbara Hauck for the kind donation of two beautiful floral arrangements for the altar area.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING:- All parishioners are invited to attend this last meeting before Summer.  Among the things to be approved are the re-shingling of the roof and the siding around the Church and hall and the charitable donations we would like to make in the first half of the year.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY:- May God continue to bless all the fathers in our parish and may he give them the courage and the wisdom to be beacons of faith, hope and love for our children. May God, our Heavenly Father, be your strength.

Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius Xth

Cardinal Giuseppe Sarto

On June 10th, 1893, Pope Leo XIII gave Bishop Sarto the distinction of being named Cardinal.  Three days later, he appointed Bishop Sarto as Archbishop and patriarch of Venice.  It is so unusual for a Bishop to be made a Cardinal that when a saintly lay brother had predicted, “You will first be Cardinal, then Archbishop, then Pope”, Bishop Sarto had laughed and said, “If that were to happen at all, I would first be an Archbishop and then Cardinal.”  At which point the man corrected him and said “No, you will become a Cardinal, then an Archbishop and then Pope.”  And so it came to be.
