Knights of Columbus breakfast this Sunday June 13^th at St Pius X Parish.  This will be our final breakfast for this season so come and enjoy.

Now that spring has sprung and gardens are starting to yield, donations of flowers from your gardens would be greatly appreciated.  Just leave them in the buckets inside the Fuller St. entrance and they will be added to the arrangements that grace the sanctuary on the weekends.  Even bring the cuttings left when you trim deciduous hedges as they would be very useful as greenery in arrangements.

Please save your grocery receipts & drop off at the front of the church in the marked boxes or jars, or they may be left at the Pro Life Thrift Shop.  These can be redeemed for food vouchers & assist the work of St. Vincent de Paul & the Pregnancy Care Society.  Thank you for your consideration & help.

Johann Funk, a retired sociology Professor who has spent time in Palestine, most recently from November through January, will share his experiences on Wed Jun 23^rd at 7:00 pm at First United Church at the corner of Richter and Bernard. To commemorate the 150^th Anniversary of the official establishment of the Father Pandosy Mission, the Okanagan Historical Society is working with local artist Crystal Przybille to create a public, life-sized, bronze sculpture of Father Charles Pandosy, O.M.I.. The sculpture will stand in a Kelowna, Public Park to inspire contemplation of our local history for generations to come.

Community funds contributed will help secure a substantial, federal matching grant for the project. A plaque accompanying the sculpture, and a pamphlet distributed at the unveiling, will acknowledge donors.

It was a great success! So much so, we will be doing it again in August! You have few weeks to sort through your stuff at home. We had 9 tables this time, and there's room for lots more. Come and sell your stuff at 'our' yard sale. Joshua

Moses' best helper was Joshua. He was the first person to use spies. He fought the battle of Geritol. That's when the fence fell down on the town.

David

David came after Joshua. They made him king after he killed a giant with a slingshot.

Solomon

One of David's sons was called Solomon. He had, like, 300 wives and 500 porcupines. They told us in Sunday School that he was a really wise man, but that doesn't sound too wise to me.

Jonah and Other Prophets

After Solomon came a whole lot of major league prophets. Jonah was one of them. He was swallowed by a whale, then barfed up on the beach.

There were some other minor league prophets, but they weren't too important.

We are having a dessert party at 2449 Longhill (Rosemary Lalonde’s backyard) on June 20^th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Tickets are $10 each. For the educational needs of Burmese refugee children.  Hanging plant raffle. Come and bring a friend. For tickets call Lorie Downey 250‑860‑7068.

Remember our Bazaar coming on Saturday September 25^th.

We have set dates for people to drop off gently used articles for the different sections of the bazaar.  These are the dates;

·         June: Tue 22^nd and Tue 29^th from 10:00 am - Noon.

·         July: Tue. 20^th and Tue 27^th from 10:00 am - Noon.

·         Aug: Tue 24^th and Tue 31^st from 10:00 am - Noon.

In September there will be more time available as there will be more people around in the hall.

Father Bart’s mom has rallied somewhat so he is back this weekend for Mass.  Depending on how his mother does, he may have to leave on short notice.  All your prayers are appreciated.

We have awarded the contract for renovations to the Main Entrance and confessionals to John Leinemann.  An application for a building permit will be made in the coming week and construction will start by mid-June.

A number of things have gone in our favour thus far.  There seems to to be enough power to accommodate a space heater in the new confessionals and a couple of baseboard heaters in the expanded entranceway.  Test holes have also been drilled into the concrete to ensure we do not have to pour new footings to support the added weight of the choir loft.

The contract price comes in under $35,000.  This does not include soundproofing doors for the new entranceway, the new sides and the two confessionals.  Nor does it include new light fixtures, heaters and other incidentals.  We are expecting an overall bill for $50,000 when everything is done.  This money will be taken out of our Special Building fund that was collected for renovations.

Weekday Masses will be held in the Parish Hall during the height of construction.
