ORDINARY PEOPLE
Each one of us is called to be extraordinary in our ordinary, everyday lives. As a teacher, a parent, a plumber, a business owner, a store clerk, each one has some role in bringing about the influence of God on others. Yours may be to challenge a government structure to be inclusive. Another’s may be to be a listener. Yet another may be called to generosity on behalf of others. What is your call? (based on Catholic Social Teaching)

THE MONTHLY MARIAN MASS:- hosted by the Militia Immaculata will be celebrated by Fr. Cesar Macariola on Thursday evening July 16th.  The mass will be at 7 pm at Immaculate Conception.  Coffee to follow.  Everyone is welcome to join us.

QUILT RAFFLE TICKETS:- Please pick up your books.  The success of this fund raiser depends on your continued support.  Last year our proceeds exceeded $4,000 for the Parish.

2ND ANNUAL CATHOLIC FAMILY CAMP:- Sept 11-13, 2009 at Camp Easter Seals in Winfield.  Family Mass, Activities for youth and children, separate men's and women's talks.  For more info contact Tanya (250) 769-8572, Kathy (250) 868‑3801 or check out www.okanagancatholic.ca to register."

EXTERIOR RENOVATIONS (FURTHER NEWS):- During the summer, extensive renovations will be done to the outside of the church.  The church, hall and Catechetical house will be re-roofed, insulation will be added to the church and hall and the siding, facia and gutters/drain pipes on the church hall will be replaced.  Parishioners have had their input in regards to new colours.  The cost is $75,000.

MARIAPOLIS RETREAT 2009:- Thurs July 16th to Sun July 19th at Trinity Western University, Langley. The title this year is Love generates Wisdom. For registration forms and information contact Fr Harry Clarke at (250) 425-6444 or hjclarlce@shaw.ca

OZANAM HOUSE NEWS:- During its short existence (Apr 2007), Ozanam House has helped many men achieve substance free living and increased quality of life by providing affordable housing in a stable, drug and alcohol free environment in which personal development can flourish.
Our ultimate goal is that residents will transition back to the community with a respect for self and others.  By the grace of God, a number of our residents have met this goal in the 2 years that we have been in existence.

ST. PEREGRINE PRAYER GROUP:- will meet on the 4th Wed. July 22nd.  We will resume the first and third Wednesdays in August.  For info call Betty (250) 868-9151 or Alice (250) 860-3541.

BAZAAR CONVENERS NEEDED:- Apple Pie Making, Treasures, Grand Raffles, Set up & Takedown, Children’s Toys & Games and the Cake Walk.  It is the Parish’s biggest fund raiser and lots of fun but we need your help.  Any booths that do not have a convener will have to be dropped from the bazaar.  Thank you Sharon Schwab (250) 861-2945.

Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius Xth

Pius X Cardinal

Cardinal Giuseppe Sarto

As always, Cardinal Sarto showed great charity to all who approached him.  It is said that his steward had to put him on an allowance, so that he would not give everything away.  When an old friend visited him one day and saw the gold watch the Cardinal pulled from his pocket, he had laughed at his friend’s expense.  “Times have changed,” he noted.  “It seems as if the old silver one has finally been replaced.”  At which the Cardinal replied, “I would have pawned the new one, but alas, the person who gave it to me had my Coat of Arms engraved on the back.”
