BILLETING:  God Bless everyone for opening their homes for billeting.  We were able to provide each guest looking for a billet comfortable accommodation.  Thank you.

ORDINATION OF BISHOP-ELECT JOHN CORRIVEAU, O.F.M.CAP.:  The new Bishop will be ordained to serve as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Nelson.  The Mass of Ordination will be at Immaculate Conception Church (839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna) at 3 PM on Wednesday, January 30th.  A Meet-and Greet reception will follow in the parish centre.

CHURCH WATCH PROGRAM:  Due to the high amount of arson related claims by churches in Western Canada our insurance company has asked us to implement a church watch program.  Parishioners, especially those who live nearby, are encouraged to walk by the church as part of their daily walk and report any suspicious behavior to Father Bart (762-2587) or Barrie Stickland (862-8477).  Please do not approach or confront suspicious people.  I often simply stop and watch them from a distance, until they notice.  Churches that are known to be watched suffer less vandalism, break-ins or arson.

PROPOSALS FOR THE PARISH TO CONSIDER:  Our music ministry has asked for a retractable screen on the wall above the choir section and the mounting of a computer projector (which we have) from the ceiling.  This proposal is open for comment.

We are also looking at renovating the sanctuary area (up front) over the next few months.  At present we have exposed wiring in the choir section (not acceptable according to code) and a need for re-carpeting.  The whole sanctuary will be looked at in regards to steps, re-wiring, and establishing a Blessed Sacrament area and choir pit.  To be funded by last year’s bazaar.  Floor plans to come at a later date.

Lastly, we are thinking about removing the tall cedar bushes separating the parking lot from the Parish Office.  Though they serve as sound barriers and are aesthetically pleasing, they are also serving as a cover for inappropriate behavior during the summer.  A more open landscaping design will be considered.  We are open to ideas and suggestions.

PALMS FOR ASH WEDNESDAY:  Important!!! There is only one week for you to bring your palms to the church before Ash Wednesday.  Boxes are at each entrance to receive them.

BUS DRIVERS DESPERATELY NEEDED:  Field trips are a wonderful way to bring learning to life and our teachers plan several throughout the year to enhance the children’s education.  One of the biggest obstacles is finding a qualified bus driver.  If you, or someone you know, is a qualified bus driver who would like to volunteer at St. Joseph School on an as need basis, please contact the school at 763-3371.  One of the busses has air brakes:  the others do not.  We would require a Criminal Record Check and a copy of a driver’s abstract.  Please consider this opportunity to be part of Catholic education in Kelowna.

THE PASSION AND RESURRECTION NARRATIVES OF JESUS:  Lenten Scripture Study:  You are invited to participate in a five-week study which will compare the particular insights found in the passion and resurrection accounts of the four Gospels.  The core of our faith incorporates both the pain of the cross and the hope of the resurrection into daily living.  Facilitated by Sister Anne McNally and Sister Rosemary Shannon.  Wednesday evenings, February 13th to March 12th, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at St. Charles Garnier Parish Hall.  To register call Marilee at the Parish Office (860-6776) or Sisters Anne or Rosemary (860-4026).  Cost $20

VALENTINE’S DINNER:  Silent Auction, Entertainment, and Dancing on Saturday, February 9th, at Immaculate Conception Parish Centre.  Tickets are $25 per person and are available from Immaculate Conception Parish Office, Loaves & Fishes Bookstore, Donna (763-3435) or call 764-4333.  Singles and couples most welcome.  All proceeds go to the Seton House of Prayer.

WAYNE BEDFORD POSTPONED TILL SUNDAY FEBRUARY 24TH:  The hall at Immaculate Conception Church is needed in preparation at the end of January for the celebration of the ordination of our new bishop.  The annual breakfast has to be postponed one month later to the last Sunday in February and not in January.  We hope to see you there.

VOCATION LIVE-IN:  On the weekend of February 15 - 17 there will be a Vocation Live-In for boys or young men interested in the priesthood or the consecrated life, at the Seminary of Christ the King, Mission, BC.  For more info, call 604.826.8715.

KINDERGARDEN REGISTRATION:  St. Joseph Elementary School is accepting applications for the kindergarten classes commencing September 2008.  Students should be five years old by December 31, 2008.  Please call for an appointment for you and your child to meet with the principal (763-3371).  There are only 40 kindergarten spaces.  Call early to avoid disappointment.
