BILLETING
NEEDED:
We would like to have as many people come from around the Diocese to the
Ordination of Father John Corriveau, O.F.M. Cap. as the sixth Bishop of
Nelson. We ask all parishioners of St. Pius X Parish, who have a spare
bedroom, to make their homes available for the purpose of billeting people
from out of town on January 30th, 2008. If you can help, please call
Catherine during the hours of 9 a.m. till noon from Monday to Friday, at
762-2587. Thank you. ORDINATION
OF BISHOP-ELECT JOHN CORRIVEAU, O.F.M.CAP.: The
new Bishop will be ordained to serve as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of
Nelson. The Mass of Ordination
will be at Immaculate Conception Church (839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna) at 3
PM on Wednesday, 30 January, 2008. A
Meet-and Greet reception will follow in the parish centre. The people of the diocese are also welcome to attend a formal
banquet, following the parish reception.
The banquet will be at The Grand Okanagan Lakefront Hotel at 7 PM.
Your name will be on the guest list upon payment of $50 to your parish
office. PROPOSALS FOR THE PARISH TO CONSIDER: Our music ministry has asked for a retractable screen on the wall above the choir section and the mounting of a computer projector (which we have) from the ceiling. This proposal is open for comment We are also looking at renovating the sanctuary area
(up front) over the next few months. At
present we have exposed wiring in the choir section (not acceptable according
to code) and a need for re-carpeting. The whole sanctuary will be looked at in regards to steps,
re-wiring, and establishing a Blessed Sacrament area and choir pit.
To be funded by last year’s bazaar.
Floor plans to come at a later date. Lastly, we are thinking about removing the tall
cedar bushes separating the parking lot from the Parish Office.
Though they serve as sound barriers and are aesthetically pleasing,
they are also serving as a cover for inappropriate behavior during the summer.
A more open landscaping design will be considered.
We are open to ideas and suggestions. CHRISTMAS
DECORATIONS: Thank you to the great crew who set up the Christmas
decorations and took them down again after Christmas. Bertha Leblanc,
Glen Bjur, Barb Marler, Theresa Eisler, and Clarence and Margaret Becker –
you did a great job! Thank you. CHRISTMAS
POINSETTIAS: Thank you to all the parishioners who donated towards the
Christmas poinsettias and thank you to the CWL ladies who collected the
donations. The poinsettias were beautiful, and over $300.00 was
collected. CHURCH WATCH PROGRAM:
Due to the high amount of arson related claims by churches in Western
Canada our insurance company has asked us to implement a church watch program.
Parishioners, especially those who live nearby, are encouraged to walk
by the church as part of their daily walk and report any suspicious behavior
to Father Bart (762-2587) or Barrie Stickland (862-8477). Please do not approach or confront suspicious people.
I often simply stop and watch them from a distance, until they notice.
Churches that are known to be watched suffer less vandalism, break-ins
or arson. .
Last Sunday’s collection: $4,818
PALMS
FOR ASH WEDNESDAY: Important!!!
There are only two weeks for you to bring your palms to the church before Ash
Wednesday. Boxes will be placed at each entrance to receive them. NOTICE

Saturday night we are in need of more Altar Servers for the Saturday
night and 11am Sunday masses. If you are in grade 4 or older and would
