THANK YOU TO OUR MUSIC MINISTRY

I wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in making our Christmas celebrations so beautiful this year. A special thank you to all the children, their parents and to all our other singers and musicians who contributed their time and their talents to the different masses. May you be richly blessed this coming year.  Carol Pounder.

A BIBLICAL WALK THROUGH THE MASS

Come, understand and appreciate the beauty, meaning and scriptural foundation of the new Mass.  You are invited to participate in a six week DVD and study group presentation of “A Biblical Walk Through the Mass” by Edward Sri of Ascension Press Sun Jan 15 – Feb 19 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at St Pius X Parish Hall.  Cost is $22 for course materials. This course will be facilitated by Robert Pounder.  Pre-register by calling the office at 250-762-2587.

SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL (ST PIUS X)

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul extends thanks to many of you that supported our drive to assist the needy in our community.

As a result of all your assistance we served a turkey dinner with all the trimmings to a total of 85 adults and children. It was a festive occasion with Santa for the children. We were able to make a brighter Christmas for 94 adults and children with the Christmas hamper gift certificates. There was much gratitude, some with tears.

Our work continues over the holiday season as we supply emergency food hampers, and deal with other crises as best we can. None of this important work would be possible without your support. Thank you and have a Blessed Christmas.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AT MASS

Any announcements to be done after Mass MUST be cleared by the office no later than Friday morning.  NOTHING hand written into the announcement book will be read.

WHY SERMONS?

An anonymous letter writer sent a letter to the local newspaper editor complaining that church attendance made no sense. “I’ve gone for thirty years,” he wrote, “and have heard something like three thousand sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So I think I’m wasting my time, as are the preachers for even bothering to deliver a sermon at all.”

This letter started a real controversy on the op-ed page. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

“I’ve been married for thirty years. In that time my wife has cooked some thirty- two thousand meals, but for the life of me, I can recall the menu of few if any of those meals. I do know, though, they all nourished me and gave me the strength I need to do my work. If my wife had not given me those meals, I’d be dead today.”

No more comments about sermon contents have appeared on the op-ed page.

LOVE IS THE MORE EXCELLENT WAY

In order to ensure all catholic churches are in communion with each other, these postures have been
STANDARDIZED BY THE CONFERENCE OF BISHOPS.

1.      During the Apostles Creed, everyone will make a PROFOUND BOW (a bow from the waist) during the words "He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary".

2.      After the washing of the hands and as Father returns to the Altar, the Assembly stands so that all are standing as Father says " Pray Brethren, that my sacrifice and yours..."

3.      The laity kneel at the end of the Holy, Holy and will stand again after the Consecration and before Father says "the Mystery of Faith".

4.      Communion Rite:

When we are standing before the Eucharistic Minister with the Holy Communion, we make a SIMPLE BOW of the head as a sign of reverence.

When we receive Holy Communion, the Eucharistic minister will place the host IN OUR HANDS THAT ARE PLACED ONE ON THE OTHER (hand we use for writing is underneath) so that we can place the host in our mouth with the hand that is underneath.

We will remain standing (unless poor health does not allow) until EVERYONE has received Communion. By remaining standing until all have received the Lord, we make a visible act of reverence for Christ alive in His people.  When ALL have received Communion, we should sit for a brief period of silent prayer.
