Immaculata Regional High School
"We are an educational community pursuing
excellence and developing the whole person while striving to see and bring
forth Christ in others"
As the 2007-08 school year comes
to an end, a review of the year reveals many accomplishments to celebrate.
Developing the “Whole Person” is a focus which has many facets.
The following is a synopsis of some of the successes we have experienced
this year.

Putting
our Faith into Action

|

The
annual 30 hours of community service that each student completes truly has
an effect on both the student and the recipients of the service.
Nothing could be more evident as experienced by the Mexico Mission
teams. All of the
participants who have experienced the exhausting, but exciting work, have
been profoundly changed by the experience.
Partnering with the local Catholic community in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico,
the teams have built 4 new houses and have been encouraged by the city to
build a new neighborhood. Our
mission continues to prosper because of the great support we have from our
community and is constantly evolving as new needs are presented to us.
Locally,
our students support many benevolent endeavors and are special supporters
of the St. Vincent de Paul society. Students
fundraise, have clothing and food drives and experience a 20 Hour Fast to
support the good work of the society. The Food Bank, Terry Fox Society and local churches are
also grateful recipients of the students’ volunteered efforts.

Academics
The
results from the latest Fraser
Institute’s “Report Card
on Secondary Schools in British Columbia and Yukon” has rated our school as the top
ranked school this side of the Fraser Valley.
The
report is based on the 2006-07 results from Grade 10 Science, English and
Mathematics, Grade 11 Social Studies and Grade 12 English.
The report gives a better academic picture, with the
inclusion of exam results from three grade levels, providing a more
complete picture of our school’s performance in academics.

The
#1 ranking in the Okanagan Valley and the #15 ranking in the whole province is a tribute to the collective
efforts of the students, staff, and parents at Immaculata.
In
the recent UBC-Okanagan Math Contest, three of the top four places were
secured by Immaculata students. Richard
Mack for the second year in a row won the competition (awarded a semester
tuition scholarship) with Kristina Gasser and Shaina Jeon tying for third.
This is the second year in a row that Immaculata students 3 of the
top 4 placings.

Athletics

|
The 2007-08 athletic season has been one of the best
in school history.
All
of our senior teams qualified for provincial championships
in
their respective sports.
The Senior Girls and Boys Basketball teams finished 2nd
and 4th respectively at their provincial championships while
the Senior Girls and Boys Volleyball teams finished 2nd and 9th.
The Golf, Senior Girls Soccer and Senior Boys Rugby teams will be
competing at the provincials in the upcoming weeks.
These accomplishments are a direct result of the commitment and
hard work shown by the student athletes and their coaches.
They could not have done what they have without the backing of
their parents, teachers and fans who have supported them in so many ways.
