THE PARISHIONERS OF ST. PIUS X

HOLY COMMUNION FOR CELIACS

Those suffering from Celiac react negatively to gluten in wheat.  Since all communion hosts contain wheat, those suffering from Celiac are strongly encouraged to receive from the cup.  Please let the priest know prior to Mass and a special Communion cup will be blessed for this purpose and placed on the corner of the altar.  Due to the possibility of cross-contamination, no one receiving the Sacred Host should receive from this cup.

TRAVELING CHALICE

As part of our focus on the call of God, families are encouraged to sign up to take the Traveling Chalice home and pray the prayer before any family meal.  Please sign up on the sheet provided in the church.  This initiative will continue into spring.

  FLIGHT INTO EGYPT

The first graders at a Sunday school in San Diego were told to draw on paper their conceptions of the "flight into Egypt" by Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus.  One little girl turned in a picture of an airplane with three people in the back, all with halos, and a fourth up front without one.  Perplexed about the picture, the teacher asked the little girl to explain.

"Oh," replied the youngster, "that's Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus in the back."

The teacher went on, "And what about the fourth person?"  "That," said the little girl with emphasis, "is Pontius, the pilot!"

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS TO SAY AT HOME

God of all creation, in baptism you called each of us by name to be your children.  We give you thanks and praise for this gift.
May the Good News of Jesus Christ, which inspired the first disciples to ‘Come and See’, continue to speak in our world today.
Bless the Diocese of Nelson with men and women who will answer your call to speak your Word as religious brothers and sisters, priests and deacons.  We make this prayer through Jesus, your Son and our Brother. Amen.

REDISCOVER YOUR MARRIAGE

Retrouvaille simply means 'rediscovery'. The program offers the chance to rediscover yourself, your spouse, and a loving relationship in your marriage. Tens of thousands headed for divorce have successfully saved their marriages by attending. Retrouvaille is not a spiritual retreat, not a sensitivity group, not a seminar, not a social gathering. For confidential information about or to register for the program beginning with a weekend on April 30th email 1009@retrouvaille.org or call 604-530-6710 or visit the web site at www.HelpOurMarriage.com

SHARE LENT

As Pope Benedict reminds us in the encyclical, Caritas in Veritate, “Food and access to water are universal rights of all human beings without distinction or discrimination.”  Yet more than a billion people do not have enough food to live healthy, productive lives. Most live in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. This is where Development and Peace works in solidarity with partners to increase access to food for poor communities. The Share Lent Mini-Magazine tells the stories of some of them: a new partner in Madagascar which has helped a thousand families increase the amount of rice they grow, and a Haitian partner which has trained small-scale farmers to increase their yields sustainably. Other partners are featured too, and this is where you’ll find Development and Peace’s financial information. Pick up your copy today after Mass.  Please check out our web site www.devp.org or call Jeanette or Les Atwell at (250) 861‑4242.

CHRISM MASS

The Chrism mass will be held at the cathedral in Nelson on Monday, March 29th  at 7:00 pm.  This is a very beautiful mass in which the priests of the Diocese renew their vows and the holy oils are blessed for the year.  We are arranging a car pool for those who would like to attend.  We would drive up on Monday and return on Tuesday.  Supper is provided on Monday evening but they must know who is coming.  If you are interested, please contact the Parish Office at 250-762-2587.

FRIDAY DEVOTIONS

Throughout Lent, we will have evening prayer at 6:45 pm followed by the Stations of the Cross.  Please join us.
