THE BIBLE

A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!"

His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?

The son replied, "I do know!"

"Okay," said his father. "What does the Bible mean?"

"That's easy, Daddy..." the young boy replied excitedly, “It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.”

MACH

Myan African Charity House has three youngsters that are in need of a sponsor.  They are boys: 7 year old Warisara Maelae, 8 year old Surasart Piache and 11 year old Piraphone Yebian.  These children come from poor Burmese families who fled to Thailand and are presently attending school.  The cost is $20 a month and this gives them uniforms, books, lunch, backpacks and some transportation if needed. Perhaps we are educating a future professional. We also have a small early education class who need learning materials if anyone cares to give a donation toward this project.  We do thank you in advance for your great kindness.  Call Lorie 860-7068 for info.

ASH WEDNESDAY MASSES

Ash Wednesday masses are 9:00am and 7:00 pm.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

We will be showing the Catholicism DVD's at 6:30 pm followed by the stations of the cross. Stations of the Cross start Friday, February 15th.

POTLUCK SUPPER

Great News!!

It has been confirmed that Monsignor Mulvihill, a much beloved former pastor of St Pius, and Father George Pfliger, who was ordained at St Pius X in 1962, will soon be moving into Northwood and so will be "back home” at St. Pius parish. Our parish potluck supper will give us the opportunity to welcome them back. It will also be a time to thank Bishop Cooney for the spiritual help he has given us while Father Francis visited with his family in the Philippines. And of course, we all want to be there to welcome Father Francis home again.

The dinner, to which everyone is invited, will be on Saturday, February 16th after the 5:00 pm Mass. Let’s make this a memorable feast with our choicest dishes. Freedom’s Door will help with the cleanup.

ST PIUS K OF C PARISH BREAKFAST

St. Pius X Knights invite all to attend their Breakfast after both Sunday masses this weekend.  Come and enjoy our outstanding breakfast, the best deal in the valley!

ATTENTION: CWL MEMBERS

We are in need of a new President as our former President's term is over. REQUIRED: lady with a willingness to serve.

Help is readily available from a full slate of executive officers. Please call Sandralynn Stone for more info at 250-717-8765.

ZUMBA

Due to family health reasons, our Zumba classes have been cancelled. New classes will be posted - probably in the fall.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

CANADIAN FOOD FOR CHILDREN

We asked for a truck and received four responses. Five truckloads of donations have now been delivered to CFFC in Penticton. Thank you to all who helped.

Larry Toulouse has been picking up donations from the Mennonite thrift shop and the Rutland hospital auxiliary every Saturday am and now needs time off. This is a very satisfying volunteer work for someone with a van or truck. If you can help call Rosemary 778-478-2156.

  Rachel’s Corner

Oh Lord, my God, inspire the hearts of Your people with Your Word and Your teaching. Protect them under the shadow of your wings…”

- Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Feast: Feb 14

Pray for the intercession of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, the apostles to the Slavs, and ask them to inspire you with courage and faith to find and accept God’s great mercy and love.

WHY SHARE LENT

In 1967 Pope Paul VI in his encyclical, Populorum Progressio, laid the foundation principles for development: charity, justice, and solidarity.  The world had experienced two terrible wars and the Holy Father understood that the desperation caused by poverty and injustice provides the soil for strife and violence to grow.  It became clear to the Holy Father and our bishops that it was part of our mission as Catholic Christians to understand the problems of others and to help them to help themselves. That is why the Canadian Bishops established the organization of Development & Peace (D & P). Our support of the D & P Share Lent campaign is an opportunity for each of us to participate in this mission.

This Lent Development & Peace is focusing on Human Dignity. The calendar attached to this bulletin identifies some of the issues and tells some stories from around the globe. Why not put a label on a glass jar and follow the calendar prompts by tossing some loose change in daily throughout Lent. You can have some fun by getting the family involved.  All this helps us to focus on our belief in the inherent dignity of the human person which is the foundation of Catholic social teaching.

RE-LENT PROGRAM

Starting on Ash Wednesday, St. Charles Garnier is beginning a new Re-Lent program. Each Wednesday during the Lenten Season there will be speakers talking on how to refocus, refill, repent, reorient, reflect and remember what is important in preparation for Easter! The first session will be on Feb 13th, following the Ash Wednesday mass, which starts at 7:00 pm. The following weeks the program will start with music at 6:45 pm in the church! We hope to see you there!
