PIUS XTH K OF C BREAKFAST:-
St. Pius X Knights invite all to attend their
Breakfast on Feb 8th after both Sunday masses. SANDALWOOD:-
Fr. Charlie Mulvihill will officiate at a mass held at Sandalwood on Thurs,
Feb 12th at 10am. MRS
FRANCIS VAN ROIJEN:- My mother is requesting your
prayers for healing. She was
diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus during Advent and treatment options
are quickly running out. Though
she is still leading an active lifestyle at this point in time, doctors are
afraid that it will soon spread to her vital organs.
Mom has a great trust in the power of prayer. EASTER CHOIR
PRACTICE:- Please
come and join a choir composed of members from our various music ministries to
prepare for singing the Easter Triduum – Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the
Vigil Mass. Practices will be
held on Thursday evenings at 7:15pm in the church beginning Thursday, Feb 5th.
If God has blessed you with a musical gift, come and share it with us
as we celebrate His passion, death and resurrection. WORLD
DAY OF THE SICK:- To commemorate the Feast of our
Lady of Lourdes and the World Day of the Sick, Fr. Bart will be available
to anoint all those who come forward at the 9am Mass on Wed Feb 11th.
The Church recommends the sacrament for all those afflicted with a
serious illness (either chronic or terminal), those awaiting surgery (even if
it involves only moderate risk), those who, because of age, would be in danger
of death and all those whose death is imminent.
The Anointing has two purposes: Healing and Salvation through the
Saving Death and Resurrection of our Lord.
Although the sacrament also contains the forgiveness of sins, the
church teaches that it is not meant to be used as a substitute to Confession,
but, especially in cases of extreme illness, is meant to provide the means for
forgiveness to those who are unable to confess their sins. VOLUNTEER
SECRETARY NEEDED:- Parish
Council is looking for someone who is interested in volunteering their time
and skills as a secretary. The
Parish Council meets on the fourth Wednesday
of each month. The
secretary will be responsible for taking notes, distributing the minutes,
agenda and reports via email, creating a short synopsis for the bulletin and
sending a reminder each month. Please
phone the office. JUBILEE YEAR OF ST. PAUL:-
Come
join us at St. Pius X for a bible study based on the book by
Fr. Mitch Pacwa of EWTN - St. Paul, A Bible Study for Catholics. This
six week course will explore St. Paul’s teachings on the sacraments and our
Catholic understanding of them. The weekly sessions will begin on Monday
February 2nd and run through Monday March 9th. For
more information or to register contact the parish office – (250) 762‑2587
or Margaret – (250) 762‑8274 or Janet – (250) 860‑8807.
Pre‑registration would be appreciated so we can have enough study books
on hand. NEW
PROCEDURE:- Beginning in February, the two
Eucharistic Ministers who minister the cup will be asked to take the two
candles from beside the Lectern to the back of the church when the ushers have
come to the front of the church to collect on the second side. The candles will be brought up with the gifts and placed on
the two vacant candle stands beside the altar.
This new procedure will accentuate first the Word and then the
Eucharist as our sole focus. As
the lit candles are moved from one place to the other, so does our focus. VOCATION

Fr.
Giuseppe Sarto Giuseppe Sarto finished his seminary studies in 1858.
Since he was only 23, and the canonical age for ordination was 24, the
bishop had to obtain a dispensation from Rome.
Considering his stellar academic record, graduating with honours in all
subjects and judging from the evaluations made by seminary staff and parish
priests alike, the dispensation was granted in short order.
On September 18th, 1858, Giuseppe Sarto was ordained a
priest at Castelfranco by the Bishop of Treviso.
He would celebrate his first mass, on the following day, in his
hometown of Riese.
