Thank you for the support thus far.  We are at 100% of our Diocesan goal and 13% of our Parish goal.  All donations made out to the Pilgrimage of Faith from this point onward will come back to the parish in full without being subject to the usual diocesan tax on income.

Parishes from West Kelowna to Winfield are hosting a series of Holy Hours for Priests.  Let us show our support for our priests by attending as many as possible, turning our prayers into a local pilgrimage.  The next Holy Hour will be Fri Jan 8^th, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kelowna from 11:00am - Noon.

 

We would ask that the wearing of perfumes and colognes be avoided as some parishioners have allergies to scents.

The Ark of the Covenant Prayer Group (affiliated with the Intercessors of the Lamb) will be offering “Heart to Heart Listening” beginning on Wed, Jan 6^th, 2010 at 6:30 pm in the Catechetical Centre of St. Pius X parish.  This is an 18 week course based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius that will open the ears of our hearts so they may listen to what God is saying to us.  The course “Empowerment of the Holy Spirit” is a prerequisite for this course.  For further info or to register, contact Emily at (250) 868‑2395.

A very special thank you to Clarence Becker for rebuilding the stable and painting the base of the Nativity display.  It looks wonderful!!

 

We encourage all women 16 and over to join.  We realize not all of you can attend meetings and be active in the work we do, but your involvement is important.  Our CWL Council is 48 years old and has 124 members.  It is also time to renew memberships. The annual cost is $20. Please enclose payment with your name, address, telephone number, and email address in an envelope and put this in the Sunday Collection basket. The BC Ministry of Education is phasing in Full Day Kindergarten over the next two years.  Please note there will be no ½ day option.  Kindergarten 2010-2011 registration will begin on Jan 11.  Please contact the school (250) 763‑3371 after Jan 10^th to arrange to pick up an application.  If email is more convenient, please request a Kindergarten application at school@stjosephkelowna.ca.

An opportunity is available, to transport baby & children's clothing & shoes to the Catholic Church in Guayabitos, Mexico.  The priest distributes these to poor families living in the hills, when he visits them to bring the sacraments.  Children’s running shoes are especially appreciated.  Also, prescription glasses & reading glasses from the Dollar Store are desperately needed, any strength.  A collection box will be provided in ICC entrance this Sunday, Dec 27^th.  Items will be packaged to send by Dec 31^st.  Further info: Eileen at (250) 575-3553.  Thank you for your support.

The next children’s Mass will be Jan 10th at 11:00am.  There will be one practice on Jan 5th at 7:00pm.  All children are welcome.

Proposal:

·         Take out inside entrance (glass and doors)

·         Take out both confessionals

·         Take out two back pews

·         Take out side pews between last two pillars

·         Extend entrance to below choir loft overhang (glass doors and windows)

·         Build two new confessionals on each side between last two pillars

·         Install newly donated stain glass window of Divine Mercy as part of the wall for one of the confessionals

The burglar stopped dead in his tracks. Then the woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done.

As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar, "Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture at you."

"Scripture?" replied the burglar, "She said she had an axe and two 38s!"

St Pius X Parish is inviting everyone to spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament on New Year’s Eve following the 7:00pm evening Mass.  Adoration will conclude with benediction at 10:00pm.  This is a great way to usher in the New Year.

Mass will be held each Sunday concluding on Mar 21^st.  As well Mass will be celebrated on New Year's Day.  All Masses will be at 3:30pm in the Schumann House, at the top of the gondola.

 

Two bursaries in the amount of $250 each will be given to graduating students who are enrolled in a Catholic secondary school or who are a member of a BC or Yukon parish and are enrolled in a public secondary school or are home-schooled.  Interested students are invited to submit a 500 word essay to the Association by March 12^th, 2010, that demonstrates an awareness and understanding of the significance of Spirituality in Heath Care.  Essays may be sent by regular mail to Catholic Health Association of BC, 9387 Holmes Street, Burnaby BC V3N 4C3 or via email at smhouse@shawlink.ca.  If by regular mail the submission must be postmarked on or before March 12, 2010.
