Tidbits from the Life of St. Pius Xth

Fr. Giuseppe Sarto

Upon assuming the role as Spiritual Director at the seminary, Giuseppe addressed his students with these words: “Though you may be expecting a man of great learning and deep knowledge of spiritual matters, you will get none of this.  I am but a small town pastor and find myself here only by the will of God.”  He asked for their patience and their understanding, but soon received their attention and their undivided loyalty.  He spoke truthfully and honestly, instilling a simple but profound spirituality that would serve them well into their priestly service.
